Top 40 Wide Receivers for Week 5
Will Brandon Aiyuk ever be consistent? Will Corey Davis continue to play well? And will Mike Williams get back to his first 3 week production?
There are so many good Wide Receivers in Fantasy Football, but very few are super consistent on a weekly basis. Some days, Randall Cobb goes off for 20 fantasy points, but that does not mean you should roster him. To win your Fantasy Football leagues, you need consistency and players that have favorable matchups each week.
Again, I am writing these rankings to help you guys win your Fantasy Football leagues and more importantly, your matchups for this week. Furthermore, here are my rankings for Week 5 Fantasy Football PPR leagues.
Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers, Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals
As enticing as it was to think about putting Tyreek Hill at #1, Hills has a much tougher matchup this week against the Bills. Adams should continue his consistent fantasy production with a touchdown and at least 100 yards receiving this weekend.
Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams, Opponent: Seattle Seahawks
Kupp is poised to have a huge week against the awful Seahawks defense. Kupp had a “down” week only scoring 11.4 fantasy points, but he was targeted the most he has been all season long, which is promising. Kupp should get back to his usual self against the Seahawks on Thursday night.
Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs, Opponent: Buffalo Bills
I don’t care that the Bills’ defense is good. Tyreek Hill being any lower than the #3 WR any week is just flat-out disrespectful. Sure, Hill had two games with barely any fantasy points, but he also had two games with over 40 fantasy points! In fact, Hill is the only person to achieve that feat. Will Hill have a good week? Absolutely and he could finish as WR1 regardless of his “unfavorable” matchup.
Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills, Opponent, Kansas City Chiefs
This is going to be the week where Diggs finally goes off and lives up to his Fantasy Football hype. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs are both going to need to have huge games to beat the Chiefs and I think they both will. Expect Diggs to score a touchdown and have 100 yards receiving this week. Anything less will be surprising to me!
Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings, Opponent: Detroit Lions
Jefferson is going up against an awful Lions and defense and because of that should have a huge day as Kirk Cousins's #1 target. However, the reason why he isn’t higher in a favorable matchup is that Adam Thielen should also get substantial targets.
D.J. Moore, Carolina Panthers, Opponent Philadelphia Eagles
D.J. Moore is as consistent as any receiver in the National Football League. Because of that, and him being Sam Darnold’s #1 option since Christian McCaffrey should still be out, Moore is poised for a huge day again against the Eagles.
D.K Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks, Opponent: Los Angeles Rams
Metcalf is coming off of two fantastic fantasy performances in a row. He should have another great week against the Rams assuming Tyler Lockett gets the Jalen Ramsey assignment.
Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers, Opponent: Arizona Cardinals
Samuel seemed to be the only target Trey Lance was passing to in the second half of the 28-21 loss to the Seahawks last weekend. Trey Lance should be starting this weekend and he will target Samuel at least 15 times. Start him with confidence as he should have a huge day.
Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers, Opponent: Cleveland Browns
The rough matchup against the Browns should not matter this week. I think Williams is bound for a bounceback week. Start him with supreme confidence.
Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers, Opponent: Cleveland Browns
Allen is such a good receiver that even when Mike Williams was getting all of the touchdown receptions, he still managed to be a top 25 receiver in PPR leagues.
Allen should have a good week against the Browns and you know you can count on him for at least 12 fantasy points. If you desperately need consistency, Allen is the safest start in the world.
Terry McLaurin, Washington Football Team, Opponent: New Orleans Saints
McLaurin could be a top 5 receiver if he keeps having 30+ fantasy point weeks. Taylor Heinicke loves to throw to him and that shouldn’t change against the inconsistent Saints defense. Expect a touchdown and 80+ yards receiving for McLaurin.
DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals, Opponent: San Francisco 49ers
Hopkins had a tough assignment last weekend with Jalen Ramsey and the Rams, but he is now going up against a depleted 49ers’ secondary which should allow Hopkins to have a huge day.
Kyler Murray has so many options that Hopkins sometimes suffers from the variety of options, but this week he should continue to show fantasy players that he is a #1 receiver in PPR formats.
Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons, Opponent: New York Jets
Ridley has had a very disappointing year so far averaging only 14.6 fantasy points per game. It really isn’t his fault, it’s Matt Ryan’s fault for not getting Ridley and Tight End Kyle Pitts more involved.
He should have a fantastic day against the Jets, but his inability to have a 20+ fantasy point day so far should concern some fantasy owners.
Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks, Opponent: Los Angeles Rams
This is a tricky one here since Jalen Ramsey is definitely going to be locking up Tyler Lockett. However, if there are some switches in the game, then Lockett can do some big-time damage.
This is one of those weeks where Lockett could have a huge day or one where he could come up with almost nothing in fantasy production.
CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys, Opponent: New York Giants
With Dalton Shultz and Ezikiel Elliot being used more in the passing game, it has taken a toll on Lamb and Amari Cooper’s fantasy production thus far.
However, there is no way Dalton Shultz continues to put up 20+ fantasy points per game so Lamb and Cooper should both get back on track soon and could as soon as this weekend against the Giants.
Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers, Opponent: Denver Broncos
Johnson is coming off of a huge week where he recorded over 24 fantasy points. He has undisputedly been Ben Roethlisberger’s #1 option and he is making the most of it.
He is going up against a really dominant Denver Broncos defense which is why he falls to #16 on this list for this week.
Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys, Opponent: New York Giants
Like Lamb, Cooper could be poised for a big day since the Giants defense ranks in the bottom 10 of every single category so far this season. Cooper has a lot of boom/bust potential this week and it could result in a huge day for Cooper.
Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings, Opponent: Detroit Lions
Thielen did not get his share of anything last weekend against the Browns, resulting in his worst fantasy week all season long. However, the Vikings are playing the Lions and if Kirk Cousins has a bounce-back day, then Thielen should also be due for a bounceback day.
Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Opponent: Miami Dolphins
Mike Evans scored over 14 fantasy points last weekend against the New England Patriots which is impressive since Brady failed to record a touchdown.
Start Mike Evans with confidence because if Rob Gronkowski remains out which is very likely, then Evans is poised for a huge fantasy day as Brady’s #1 Red-Zone option
Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Opponent: Miami Dolphins
Godwin should benefit from an angry Tom Brady who just did not perform last week in Fantasy. Like Mike Evans, Godwin was surprisingly productive in an awful fantasy effort by Brady where he recorded 0 touchdowns.
Godwin could split receptions with Evans and Antonio Brown, but I would start him with confidence even against a tough secondary that the Dolphins have.
Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals, Opponent: Green Bay Packers
Chase has been Joe Burrow’s favorite target all season long and the Bengals are going up against an incredibly weak Green Bay Packers defense. Chase could have anywhere from 14-30 fantasy points as he is poised for a huge day and is a big-time boom/bust player. Start him with confidence.
Michael Pittman Jr, Indianapolis Colts, Opponent: Baltimore Ravens
Pittman is going to have a huge game against the Ravens. He is Carson Wentz’s #1 target and Wentz should have a much better game on Monday Night Football as he gets an extra day to get healthier. Start Pittman with confidence.
Marquise Brown, Baltimore Ravens, Opponent: Indianapolis Colts
Marquise Brown is Lamar Jackson’s favorite target, especially in the Red-Zone this season. The Colts have a good defense, but Brown is poised for a big day regardless because of Jackson’s ability to continue to get him the ball.
Lavishka Shenault Jr, Jacksonville Jaguars, Opponent: Tennesee Titans
Shenault Jr. is going to be Trevor Lawrence’s #1 option this week against an awful Titans defense. Start him with confidence because if Lawrence can throw multiple touchdowns Shenault should get at least one of them plus 70 yards receiving.
Julio Jones, Tennesee Titans, Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars
If Jones is able to play this week, he could have a monster game. Ryan Tannehill is not having a good year, but he has been consistent in the past and I expect him to start playing like last years Ryan Tannehill soon meaning that Jones is going to be implemented and used more in the offense. The same goes for A.J. Brown
A.J. Brown, Tennesee Titans, Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars
Brown should be able to play very well if Ryan Tannehill targets him against the Jaguars. This is of course only if he plays. Brown is one of those guys that has been questionable every single game this year and who knows if he will ever be fully healthy this year. He is a big boom/bust player this week.
Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans, Opponent: New England Patriots
The Patriots should have a great game plan for Cooks and the Texans’ awful offense, but Cooks will most definitely be targeted at least 12 times this weekend. The only question will be if Davis Mills is able to get him the ball more than a couple of times. If he is, then Cooks could have a big week even against a really good Pats defense.
Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots, Opponent: Houston Texans
Meyers is coming off of a big game and he is Mac Jones’ favorite target. I would start him with supreme confidence this week against a gosh-awful Texans defense.
Odell Beckham Jr, Cleveland Browns, Opponent: Los Angeles Chargers
Baker Mayfield hasn’t played well this year and even though Beckham Jr. is literally his only good receiver right now, he still can’t get him the ball and target him enough which is very concerning. Could he have a big week? Of course, but he also could have a terrible week. The premier boom/bust player Beckham is.
Robert Woods, Los Angeles Rams, Opponent: Seattle Seahawks
Woods has fallen victim to Cooper Kupp’s stellar fantasy season but he still could be productive this week against a weak Seahawks defense. Woods is another guy that is boom/bust every single week.
DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles, Opponent: Carolina Panthers
Smith is Jalen Hurts’ #1 target, but he has been very inconsistent in Fantasy Football all year long. I do think he will have a really good week, but it is the Panthers’ defense that has only had one bad performance all season long, which was against a much better offense in the Cowboys.
Antonio Brown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Opponent: Miami Dolphins
Brown is another guy that is a big-time boom/bust player. He could get you 20 fantasy points or 5 fantasy points. However, Brady likes to target Brown and I am expecting a huge week for Brady and for Brown, Godwin, and Evans to all benefit from that. Start him.
Sterling Shepard, New York Giants, Opponent: Dallas Cowboys
Shepard may not play this weekend, but if he does, he is a must-start. He is by far Daniel Jones’ #1 target and is going against an up and down Dallas defense. Trevon Diggs will get the assignment of Shepard though which is why he falls to #33 on this list.
Allen Robinson II, Chicago Bears, Opponent: Las Vegas Raiders
Poor Allen Robinson is suffering from weak Quarterback play where they can’t ever seem to get him the ball. He is such a talented player, but his fantasy production just isn’t there this year due to bad offensive playcalling and horrendous Quarterback play.
Tyler Boyd, Cincinnati Bengals, Opponent: Green Bay Packers
Even though Ja’Marr Chase should get the most targets and production, Tyler Boyd is bound to benefit from facing a weak Packers defense as well. He is a guy that could have a big week and he has been sneaky productive in Fantasy Football all year long.
Marvin Jones Jr, Jacksonville Jaguars, Opponent: Tennesee Titans
Jones Jr. is going to split production and targets with Lavishka Shenualt, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have a touchdown reception and 100 yards receiving. It all depends on how Trevor Lawrence plays against the Titans.
Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins, Opponent: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Waddle is going up against a weaker Tampa Bay defense and Jacoby Brissett loves to pass to Waddle meaning he could have a big day. However, if Brissett and the Dolphins’ offense can’t get going, Waddle could also have a terrible game.
Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos, Opponent: Pittsburgh Steelers
Sutton is the #1 option on offense right now for the Broncos, but the Steelers defense is really good and who knows if the Denver offense will be able to get Sutton involved. This is why he ranks #38 instead of much higher.
Emmanuel Sanders, Buffalo Bills, Opponent: Kansas City Chiefs
Sanders splits production with Stefon Diggs, Dawson Knox, Zack Moss, and Cole Beasley but if he gets targeted the way he has a couple of games this year (which is a LOT) then he is due for a huge game against a very weak Chiefs defense.
Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders, Opponent: Chicago Bears
Renfrow has an unfavorable matchup against the Bears this weekend which is why he ranks #40 instead of much higher. However, Derek Carr always finds a way to get Renfrow involved and his fantasy production has been super consistent. If you need to play it safe this week, then Renfrow is the guy to start.
