Innaugural Fantasy Basketball Rankings, Point Guard
After 3 weeks into the NBA season, where do players rank in your head to head leagues? Point Guards are first.
Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks
Doncic has a case to become the best player in all of Fantasy Basketball this season. Doncic consistently puts up 27+ points per game, and 8+ assists and rebounds per game every season.
The scary thing is that he is definitely not done improving his overall game, and because of that, this could be the year that Doncic puts up over 30 PPG while also putting up 9+ assists and rebounds per game as well. However, he is off to a rocky start, but when he improves, it will be game over for opposing matchups.
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
How could Curry not be #2 after leading the league in scoring and having one of his most productive shooting years ever?
Curry is PG2 only because he doesn’t put up as many rebounds and assists as Luka Doncic.
Curry may be the 2nd overall Point Guard in Fantasy Basketball, but he should have been picked in the top 5 of every single Fantasy Basketball league by everyone. He won’t disappoint.
Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers
Lillard is off to a shaky start this season, but its only 9-10 games in. He is Damian Lillard, so he should be able to pick up his production soon.
Lillard will have another monster year with 27+ points per game and 8+ assists per game and he will undoubtedly be a top 15 fantasy player overall.
Lillard’s value comes from his efficiency from beyond the arc and the free-throw line, especially if your league counts 3 pointers made and free throws as a category for points (which it should).
Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks
Young is poised for a huge year after his playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals with the Hawks. Young should and hit close to three 3 pointers per game with 27+ points per game and 9+ assists per game this season. Young is the 4th best Point Guard in Fantasy Basketball but could finish even above Lillard if he has the year many people think he will have. He is already off to a good start.
LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets
Everyone is expecting a huge year from Ball after he exceeded all expectations and won the Rookie of the Year while putting up close to 16 points per game, 6+ assists per game, and 6+ rebounds per game last season.
He will of course get way better this season and put up upwards of 20 points per game, 7 assists per game, and 5 rebounds per game finishing as a top 6 Point Guard in Fantasy Basketball. I believe that Ball could finish above Trae Young by the end of the year.
Ja Morant, Memphis Grizzlies
Some people may consider this high for Morant, but after what he did in the playoffs where he averaged over 30 points per game and 8+ assists per game, while also having a 47 point performance, he is bound to have another breakout fantasy season.
He is already off to a great start, and if he averages close to 30 PPG while leading the Grizzlies into the playoffs, there may be some MVP consideration at the end of the year. Again, we are only 10 games in so Morant will have to prove he can keep up this solid production he has shown so far.
Morant isn’t a great 3PT shooter, which is why he isn’t ranked higher in fantasy, but he will put up close to 28 points per game and 8 assists per game, while also getting you some rebounds and steals. He could be even better than this prediction.
Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Lakers
Westbrook could be ranked higher than the 7th overall Point Guard if he stops turning the ball over so much. He will undoubtedly get his usual 20+ points per game with 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game as well, but the efficiency is the big question.
He is now on a team with two other superstars and his fantasy production will go slightly down because of that. Just because of how talented Westbrook is though, he is the 7th overall Point Guard in Fantasy Basketball and will be a solid starting Point Guard all season long with his insane numbers.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder
Gilgeous-Alexander is close to becoming a walking triple-double and if he does that, he will finish much higher on this list than PG8.
He improves every facet of his game each season and I expect Gilgeous-Alexander to be a sure thing to get 25 points per game, 8 assists per game, and 6 rebounds per game, while also putting up 1 steal per game.
He is a diamond in the rough in fantasy and if you selected him in the third or fourth round, you have a golden opportunity to win your league.
De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento Kings
Fox is one of the best fantasy producers of any guard in the NBA, but he hasn’t looked good so far this season. He will pick it up, but Harrison Barnes and Richaun Holmes are taking away a lot of production from Fox.
The Kings have a stacked backcourt with Fox, Davion Mitchell, Buddy Hield, and Tyrese Haliburton, but Fox is the best and the most reliable of them to get you 22 points per game with 7+ assists per game even with a shaky start to the year.
Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns
Paul will be top 5 in assists per game and score 16+ points per game with 1-2 steals per game with efficiency. He’s always a solid fantasy player.
Dejounte Murray, San Antonio Spurs
Murray averages almost a triple-double. He will be the focal point of a new era Spurs team and should average over 15 points per game with 8 rebounds and 8 assists per game as well
Malcolm Brogdon, Indians Pacers
Brogdon can flat-out do everything. He’s a consistent scorer and 3 PT shooter but a lot of his fantasy value comes from his ability to get a ton of assists and steals. Brogdon is always a solid guy to have on your team.
Cole Anthony, Orlando Magic
Anthony has become a do it all Point Guard and the obvious best player on the Orlando Magic this season (at least until Jonathan Issac returns). He is a must-start while he continues to put up monster fantasy performances.
Spencer Dinwiddie, Washington Wizards
Dinwiddie will average 7 or 8 assists per game while also scoring 16 + points per game. An offensive wizard who will play 30+ minutes a game, Dinwiddie is always solid.
Lonzo Ball, Chicago Bulls
Lonzo Ball is one of the big enigmas of Fantasy Basketball due to his inconsistency in production. In some games, he will get you 40 fantasy points, while in other games he will only get you 10 fantasy points.
He now has a larger role with more reliance on him to control the Bulls offense and he will always get you 2 steals per game, 7+ assists per game, 5 + rebounds per game, and 11+ points per game. He could end up way higher on this list if he improves his consistency.
Darius Garland, Cleveland Cavaliers
Garland is a lock to be consistent with his scoring and playmaking all season long. His efficiency from 3PT range needs to get better, but when it does, Garland could finish way higher on this list.
Jrue Holiday, Milwaukee Bucks
Holiday has been hurt to start the year, but when he is healthy he will get your fantasy 2 steals a game, 20 points, and 5-7 assists.
Jalen Brunson, Dallas Mavericks
Brunson has been balling this season and. Has picked up some of Luka Doncic’s slack to start the year. He is the 17th overall Point Guard right now.
D’Angelo Russell, Minnesota Timberwolves
Efficiency is everything for Russell and if he wants to slide into the top 15 or top 10 point guards, he needs to improve his assists per game, turnovers, and 3 PT shooting.
Mike Conley, Utah Jazz
Assists and 3 PT consistency. That’s what Conley gives you and he’s a solid guard coming off your fantasy team’s bench.
